Ethiopia’s Marathon Dynasty: Double Triumph at Paris Marathon

April 7, 2024

uma and fikir

Mulugeta Uma and Mestawut Fikir emerged victorious in the Paris Marathon men’s and women’s races on Sunday, marking Ethiopia’s first double win in the event in five years. Uma finished first in the men’s race with a time of 2:05:33, surpassing Kenyan runners Titus Kipruto and Elisha Rotich.

Kipruto crossed the finish line 15 seconds after Uma, while Rotich trailed by over a minute. Despite being the pre-race favorite with a course record in 2021, Rotich was unable to secure the win. In the women’s race, Fikir completed her first marathon in 2:20:45, narrowly beating Enat Tirusew by three seconds, with Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot finishing third.

The last time Ethiopia achieved a double win in the Paris Marathon was in 2019 when Abrha Milaw and Gelete Burka claimed victory in the men’s and women’s races. This year’s event showcased the talent and determination of Ethiopian runners, solidifying their dominance in the marathon world.
