What is happening under the Abiy Ahmed regime is unprecedented in Ethiopian history. Hundreds of thousands of people have been murdered, imprisoned, tortured, and displaced simply because of their ethnicity. Ignoring this by us living in the West where not only human rights but animals right is respected is agreat blunder.This historical tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for all of us who have remained silent in the face of the suffering of our Ethiopian people.
Europeans initially ignored the annihilation of Jews and Gypsies, and only when Nazi Germany turned on everyone else did they develop a deep regret that remains a painful lesson among many civilized nations today.
The recent murder of Dr. Andualem by Abiy Ahmed’s soldiers is a chilling reminder of the past. It echoes the actions that began under the TPLF regime, with the tragic death of Professor Asrat Woldeyes under Meles Zenawi’s leadership, and it seems Abiy Ahmed is continuing that dark legacy.
Let us raise our voices for the countless people in Ethiopia who are being imprisoned, tortured, and displaced due to their ethnicity and political beliefs.
